Abstract

This article examines the alarming surge in cybercrime—with statistics showing 75 data thefts occurring every second—and its profound impact on fundamental human rights in our hyper-connected society. It provides a comprehensive analysis of the legal evolution from international Council of Europe standards to Romania’s specific Criminal Code provisions and national cybersecurity strategies. By detailing specialized investigative techniques used by specialized units like DIICOT and clarifying landmark rulings on social media identity theft, the study underscores the urgent need for judicial systems to keep pace with the risks of our screen-addicted era.
